LAN Configuration Quick Setup Guide

Connect Your Device

Plug in your LAN cable from the wall socket to your laptop or router. Make sure the cable clicks properly to ensure a stable connection.

Login to Router Configuration Page

Open your router’s IP (e.g., 192.168.0.1) in a browser. Enter the default username and password provided by the manufacturer or IITB CC.

Select Static-IP Configuration

Under Network Settings, choose Static IP instead of DHCP.

Enter Configuration Details

Use your Zone (Z), Floor (F), and Room Number (R) to fill in these values:

  • IP Address: 10.17.ZF.R
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default Gateway: 10.17.ZF.250
  • Primary DNS: 10.200.1.11
  • Secondary DNS: Not required

Example: For Zone 6, Floor 9, Room 9076 → IP = 10.17.69.76, Gateway = 10.17.69.250

Verify Zone (Z) and Room (R)

  • Floors 1–5 → Zones 1–3
  • Floors 6 & above → Zones 1–6
  • Use the last two digits of your room number as R (e.g., Room 9076 → R = 76)

Login to IITB Internet Portal

After setting your IP, open internet.iitb.ac.in and log in using your LDAP credentials to access IITB internal sites.

Common Network Issues

This checklist helps residents diagnose and resolve common LAN and internet issues. Please follow all steps carefully before reporting a problem.

  1. No Internet via LAN / Disconnection
    • Verify your IP configuration is correct as per the guide.
    • Check that your LAN cable is securely connected to the wall port and router/PC.
    • Try restarting your router.
  2. IITB Portal Login Fails
    • Verify your LDAP credentials are correct.
    • Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
  3. WiFi Signal Issues
    • If using a personal router, ensure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled.
    • Try forgetting and rejoining the network, especially if you move to a common area.
  4. When Reporting an Issue, Mention:
    • Whether the issue is room-specific, wing-wide, or hostel-wide.
    • The time/date the problem started.
